Creating an AHA Moment
The Willard Way
Curricular Adaptation,
Enhancement and Modification
 utilizing Technology
A Practical Common Sense Approach for PARENTS and EDUCATORS.

Life is not about what happens to you. Life is about how you choose to respond.
I choose to dwell in possibility
😉

I grew up in an age of infinite possibilities.

This is what I thought life would be like when I was growing up and set the stage for my approach when my son was born with Down's syndrome

Why Start With Reading?!

Nate is a very visual learner. Reading as a way to talk - seemed like an obvious choice to me - as if he could see the words, and the structure of a sentence - he could replicate it.   When he could see that his words had power. He would be more interested in using them.

It's not just about what technology can do for you, but what you can do with the technology! I changed the world for my family and for Nate, with the best software, hardware and technology that I could find. The Willard Way is my "out of the box" - "on the shelf"- solution for a child who had so much to say and share and no way to do it. It is the best of what I found modified, and enhanced - tools that worked for us and ready for you to use. Let The Willard Way help change your world - too.

My approach to curricular adaptation and modification was all about using technology to achieve the goal we were heading for. I have always used the technology as a means to achieving the result desired, Technology is a great tool to have in the tool box - as a means to help my/our/your child.

Technology changes so quickly and each of Nate's largest successes and strategies - ie: teaching Nate to Read - as a way to teach Nate to talk , have lived and died with Nate's passing through schools and programs. 'The Willard Way' would be a wonderful way to reach a broader audience! and accomplish one of the things I wished so hard for - when Nate was born.....someone who had already paved the trail - so as fellow pathfinders who are facing the challenges - and struggles would have a simpler path to successes along the way, and know some of the pitfalls so they could could be avoided. - I am also hoping that this will pave the way - on our path to adulthood etc..... I might still be the maker and creator of the future of technology and the workplace for Nate....the blessing and the curse of being a thought leader - but it's a path I am drawn to - in order to make ALL OUR LIVES - and the world what we we like it to be!

In 1990 I envisioned what I like to refer to as a George Jetson World. One that would include computers for every child, and devices that would enable people who would have a hard time interacting "old school' style - to be right there in the thick of things.

Looking back now in 2017, I see that that dream has certainly become part of Nate's everyday reality.

With an iPad, augmentative communication and some very wonderful software, I have seen my boy grow into quite a capable decisive young man.
